Washington State ranks alarmingly high among the top 10 states for dangerous boating. With an accident rate of approximately 22 per 100,000 vessels, the past year saw around 50 reported accidents and 13 tragic fatalities. The primary culprits? Operator inattention, improper lookout, inexperience, and alcohol use. A startling revelation shows that only 4 of the operators in these fatal accidents had a boating education card. The U.S. Coast Guard underscores the importance of education, noting that 70% of fatalities involved operators without any formal training.After years of dedicated service as a trainer for a Washington governmental agency, I've decided to take a crucial step. Through Pacific Maritime Safe Ops, my newly launched business, I aim to change these statistics. We offer a comprehensive Motorized Boat Operator Safety and Training Certification Course (MOCC), along with CPR/First Aid and Wilderness First courses. Our mission is simple: equip recreational and professional boat operators with the skills and knowledge to navigate safely and responsibly.Our hands-on and classroom-based comprehensive training covers vital areas such as core boating safety, navigation rules, emergency procedures, and more. We cater to both novice and seasoned boaters, ensuring everyone is well-prepared for real-world conditions. Our course topics span from pre-departure checks to the critical actions during capsizes or man-overboard situations—all delivered in an engaging and scenario-based format.
